Taunton Deane Sprint & Novice Distance Triathlon

Sunday 7th May 2017

The Taunton Deane Triathlon has been an annual event at Wellington Sports Centre since 1988. This high quality Sprint Distance event draws experienced triathletes from all around the region as well as providing a great challenge for those new to the sport to compete in a friendly and supportive local race.  Somerset RC tri club members turn out in force to assist with the set up and marshalling of the event and we are thankful to the additional support offered by local community groups, the Wellington Majorettes and Kingsmead Community School,  who provide us with additional marshals for the day. The swim portion takes place in the heated indoor 25m pool, bike routes take competitors on local roads to Wiveliscombe, via Milverton ( which is where the Novice race turns around) and the run consists of an undulating route around the local lanes of Tonedale.

The main event of the day is the Sprint Triathlon: 400m swim + 23km Bike + 5km run – however we also offer 100 places for  Novices consisting of a 200m swim, 12km bike and a 2.5km run.  The club runs a Triathlon Training Day to familiarise athletes with the route on the Sunday proceeding the race, which is particularly useful for our Novices in providing the opportunity to ask questions about kit and equipment and practice the art of Transitions!

The total prize fund for the event stands at over £500 with the first placed sprint male and female overall receiving £100.
